Day Five: Eastern & Oriental Express
The Eastern & Oriental Express departs Bangkok early evening. Having been welcomed on board the gleaming carriages, settle into your comfortable compartment. Dinner is served as the train travels from city into the countryside with its rice-fields, villages and water buffalo. Retire to your compartment, transformed into a cozy bedroom by your steward.

Day Six: Wang Po / Kwai
Awake early in order not to miss the excitement of the train making its way from Wang Po along the wooden trestle viaduct beside a towering cliff. On arrival at the River Kwai Bridge station, the E&O stops to allow passengers to disembark. Guides escort you on the short walk down to the jetty to board a local raft for a cruise along the lush greenery of the picturesque Kwai Yai river, passing under the Bridge. On board, a local historian provides a brief overview of the history of the Thailand-Burma railway and the bridge. At the E&O landing point you board a motor coach for a brief trip past the North Temple and Chinese Cemetery to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre. As you explore the informative museum, the historian is available to answer questions. There is time to visit the Don Rak War Cemetery adjacent to the museum if you wish. Rejoin the coach for the short ride to the Kanchanaburi railway station to board the Eastern & Oriental Express. Later reflect on the day's sights over dinner and relax with a drink in the Bar Car before retiring for the night.

Day Seven: Penang
After breakfast the train arrives into Butterworth. Enjoy a guided tour of colonial Georgetown, Penang, which includes an introductory tour of this historic town and Fort Cornwallis, and a trishaw ride through the colourful narrow streets. Enjoy lunch at the E&O Hotel before boarding the train. For dinner dine in one of the opulent dining cars and then spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car with its resident pianist. Spend your last night on board.

Day Eight: Singapore
Having crossed the Straits of Johor, the train arrives in Singapore.

Each morning a breakfast of freshly baked croissants, coffee or tea, juice and fruit is delivered to your compartment and for those passengers wishing to rise early to take advantage of the beautiful scenery, tea and coffee will be served for you in the Observation Car from 7.00am onwards.

The Eastern & Oriental Express offers three grades of beautifully appointed compartments: Pullman Compartments, State Compartments and Presidential Suites. The interior walls are cherry wood and elm burr paneled, adorned with decorative marquetry and intricate inlays.
Each compartment is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and features large picture windows. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer.
While guests dine at night, the steward transforms the compartment from a living room to a bedroom.
Presidential Suites
The E&O has 2 Presidential Suites located in the centre of the train which measure 125 square feet. The compartments are styled as a private lounge during the day with banquette style sofa and fixed chair, plus two moveable chairs. Fixed daytime seating converts to two single beds at night. A separate en suite shower, washbasin and WC is provided.
Equipped with the same facilities as the Pullman and State Compartments, the guests in Presidential Suites enjoy the additional benefit of a complimentary bar in their cabin.
State Compartments
The E&O has 28 State Compartments which measure 84 square feet. A private lounge during the day with banquette style sofa and fixed chair, plus one moveable chair. Fixed daytime seating converts to two single beds at night.
Pullman Compartments
The E&O has 36 Pullman Compartments which measure 62 square feet. During the daytime the compartment is a private lounge provided by banquette style sofa. At night the seating converts to an upper and lower bed.
Each compartment is fully air-conditioned with an en suite shower, washbasin and WC and features large picture windows. Facilities include 24-hour steward service, international electric sockets (220 volts) and 110 volt adapter for razors, a personal safe and hairdryer.

The gourmet meals and discreet service are all a part of the Eastern & Oriental Express experience.
Are drinks included in the price?
Complimentary tea and coffee is provided in your compartment. Soft drinks, wines and bar drinks are not included and may be purchased at an additional cost.

We will do our best to cater for special dietary requirements such as vegetarian, vegan etc., provided a detailed request has been made at the time of booking. If a special request has not been made, the chefs will endeavour to prepare a dish with the ingredients available on board. We are able to accommodate passengers with slight walking difficulties although we recommend that they are accompanied by an able-bodied passenger. Luggage is limited to 30 kilos per person for Pullman and State Compartment passengers. There is no limit for passengers travelling in a Presidential Suite. It is strongly advised that you only take into your compartment, one or two light cases packed with everything you need for your journey on board. All extra luggage can be checked in at the start of your journey where it will not be accessible until you reach your destination.
What do I take to wear?
The atmosphere on board is one of relaxed refinement. During the day smart casual clothing is most appropriate. In the evenings, gentlemen will feel comfortable with a minimum of jacket and tie and equivalent for ladies.
Are there showers on board?

On the Eastern & Oriental Express prices are quoted in US Dollars, and we suggest you take US Dollars for spending during your journey. What sort of service can I expect on board?
In short, dedicated. Your Steward, who is responsible for your carriage, will be available at all times and may be called by the bell in your compartment. He will take care of your passport during the journey, change your compartments from day to night configuration and serve your breakfast, afternoon tea and other refreshments as required. The Train Manager is on hand throughout the journey to help with any queries.

Will I require visas for a journey to South East Asia?
The Eastern & Oriental Express passes through Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. All passengers must be in possession of a full passport valid for at least six months after the expected date of return to their country of residence. Visas for tourism visits to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand are not normally required for stays of less than 30 days, except for nationals of certain Middle Eastern, African and South American countries. You may of course require a visa for onward travel to other Asian destinations. If you require a visa for a particular country, a visa will still be required even if in transit through that country. It is not possible to obtain visas on board the train or at the respective border points for entry into Singapore, Malaysia or Thailand. It is the passenger's own responsibility to ensure that they comply with any necessary visa or vaccination requirements.
Will I need insurance for my journey?
As with all holidays and trips abroad, it is advisable to have travel insurance.
